WCG Sporting Ltd, historically known as West Country Guns sits at the heart of the small Somerset market town of Wiveliscombe. The town being close to beautiful Exmoor and the Brendon Hills, and just 9 miles west of the county town of Taunton and the M5.
The business is owned by Shaun Stacey a well know face in clay shooting all over the country. He has represented England and Great Britain numerous times, and indeed captained England. He is sponsored by Krieghoff guns, who produce beautifully made guns in Germany including the world famous K-80. Shaun’s eldest daughter Emma is following in his footsteps, also sponsored by Krieghoff she is achieving good competition results including shooting for England. Shaun and Emma are the first father and daughter in English sporting to shoot for the country at the same time.
On a day to day basis the shop has been managed by Tony (aka Haggis) Hartman and his wife Sue since 1994. Haggis is also a well-known shooter having shot for England and Great Britain and managing to achieve 7th place overall in the world championships. Haggis no longer shoots competitively but has a great reputation as a high pheasant shot on the local Exmoor shoots and Counties to shoot the occasional clays for fun. Sue has grown up around shooting and has a wealth of knowledge on shooting attire and accessories.
Having immense product and local knowledge, Haggis and Sue provide a very personal service to customers who travel far and wide to benefit from their expertise and knowledge.
Haggis and Sue are supported in the shop by Brendon, who joined the team as a trainee in 2010. Brendon now enjoys shooting clays for fun, but as a youngster he won a number of competitions including British Junior Skeet Champion 2008 and National Inter County Junior Sporting Champion 2006. He is able to help with all aspects of shotgun and rifle purchases and the associated accessories.
As well as having a good selection of new and second hand shotguns and rifles in the shop, we are able to offer associated shooting accessories including Rhino chokes from America; telescopic sights; moderators; hearing protection; gun slips and targets, plus a wide range of ammunition including FOB cartridges for which we are the UK importer and distributor. Haggis and Brendon work closely with the gun manufacturers and can tailor your gun requirements to you needs including personal gun fit.
We have the best selection of country clothing and footwear in the area including the premium brands of Schoffel; Barbour; Musto, Le Chameau and Dubarry and are able to offer an extensive range of men’s, ladies, and children’s clothing from these suppliers and many more.
For those looking for the ideal country themed gift we have a good selection of products from Country Matters including mugs; place mats; cushions and throws, along with some very attractive hand painted porcelain products from a local artist called Muffet Monro. For those with dogs we have a good selection of leads; whistles and gun dog training equipment.
We have a small work shop where we can undertake minor gun repairs on site but also have a network of gunsmiths who we can call upon for their expertise. We are able to offer gun storage or disposal if required, and can even top your air gun up with air. We are always at the end of the phone to help answer your queries and offer professional advice.
